The Kansas Child Support Guidelines are the basis for establishing and reviewing child support orders in Kansas. A trial court must follow the support guidelines, and a deviation from the guidelines without a stated reason is reversible error. Application of the proportionate share rule in Brady v. Brady, 225 Kan. 485, 491, 592 P.2d 865 (1979), after enactment of the Kansas Child Support Guidelines is considered and approved. The doctrine of laches is applicable in child support cases.
